Fiery Furnace Hike

National Park Tours Trail Map

Overview
The Fiery Furnace consists of a maze of narrow passages created by sandstone fins. The area is not large but it is difficult to navigate and so people are encouraged Fiery Furnace to sign up for ranger-led hikes. Guided hikes are conducted twice daily and reservations can be made up to 7 days in advance at the park Visitor Center.

People can hike it on their own by obtaining a permit at the Visitor Center. However, there are no marked trails and even experienced hikers usually wander aimlessly and do not have an optimum experience. We strongly encourage people to go with a ranger.

Location: Central area in Arches National Park
Difficulty: Moderate

Weather: This trail can be hiked year-round. The area is partially shaded during the afternoon and so summer heat is not a big problem. Spring and fall are perfect times to hike here.

Other Factors: Pit toilers are available at the Fiery Furnace Viewpoint parking area. Not other services are available at the trailhead or along the trail. Carry water with you.

Route Descriptions: The trailhead is located along the main park scenic drive, between the Delicate Arch turnoff and the Devils Garden area.

There are no established routes or trails within the Fiery Furnace. Rangers guide visitors through scenic areas.
