Bryce Canyon: Backcountry

Bryce Canyon's backcountry trails offer solitude, forests, meadows, wildlife, wildflowers and interesting geologic features. Listed below are the two backcountry trails located within the park.

Under-the-Rim Trail is approximately 22.9 miles (36.9 km) long and it travels from Bryce Point to Rainbow Point. The Under-the Rim trail intersects with connecting trails at Swamp Canyon, Whiteman Bench and Agua Canyon trailheads. There are 8 campsites on the Under-the-Rim Trail; each allows only 6 people per site. Reservations can be made up to 48 hours in advance, in person, at the visitor center.

National Park Tours

Riggs Spring Loop is an 8.8 mile loop which begins and ends at the south end of the park at the Rainbow/Yovimpa Point parking lot. There are 4 campsites on the Riggs Spring Loop Trail; each allows only 6 people per site. Reservations can be made 48 hours in advance, in person, at the visitor center.

It is recommended that visitors carry at least one gallon of water per person per day into the backcountry. Water sources on the trails may sometimes be unreliable. Water in the backcountry must be purified.

Permits are required for all overnight stays.
